How information about you will be used   

While you are a patient at CRGH we will need to record various pieces of information about you. We need this information so that we can make sure that we give you the best health care and treatment. Whenever we can we will remove details which identify you. Everyone working for the CRGH has a legal duty to keep information about you confidential and we strictly control the passing of information to people not directly involved in your treatment.

This explains why we will need to collect the information and what we will do with it. Your information will:
  • help staff to review the care they provide and make sure it is of the highest standard
  • help us train and educate our staff. You can, though, choose whether or not you would like students to be present at your treatment
  • help us share some information about you with other people treating you. It means we can all work together for your benefit
  • help us investigate any complaints
  • help with research. All research we undertake is approved by a Research Ethics Committee. We will always contact you to ask permission before using information for research that could identify you. In exceptional circumstances, if this proves impossible, the Ethics Committee may agree to the research if your interests will not be harmed in any way.
  • help us to manage and plan future services. For example:
    • making sure that our services can meet patients’ needs in the future
    • auditing accounts, systems and procedures
    • preparing statistics on CRGH performance and activity

Under the Data Protection Act you are entitled to receive a copy of your medical
Record. Any applications should be made in writing and addressed to The Centre Manager.
