Surrogacy

If there is a problem with a woman’s womb, she may need surrogacy.  The woman who carries the child to birth is referred to as the host and the couple who are trying to have a baby are referred to as the commissioning couple.

After birth a parental order is obtained so that the child becomes the legal child of the commissioning couple.  Surrogacy can be performed where the host uses her own egg and the sperm from the commissioning couple, or full surrogacy where the commissioning couple uses IVF to produce embryos that are genetically theirs, and the host carries the embryo for them.

In full surrogacy there is no genetic link between the host and the child.  The child is genetically linked to the commissioning couple.  There are many requirements with surrogacy and both parties must undergo a consultation to discuss the implications of treatment in full.

The CRGH only offers full surrogacy.
